Presently an education enrichment specialist for Paulsboro Public Schools, Kate works with students in the third through sixth grades with a pull out enrichment program, whole class instruction, and whole school celebrations. Many of her projects involve students of PPS junior and senior high schools. For two summers, Kate taught elementary teachers science at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. Kate’s teaching awards include the New Jersey Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching (1993), District Teacher of the Year for Bridgeton Public Schools (1992), and for Paulsboro Public Schools (2006), and County Teacher of the Year for Cumberland (1992) and Gloucester (2006) Counties. Kate was a Girl Scout leader for twelve years and is a past Deacon of the Presbyterian Church. Focus of community involvement always involves children. Kate currently challenges students of all ages to get their writing and art works published and helps them obtain this goal. Kathleen Strong realizes the Gloucester County Teacher of the Year award could have gone to any one of ‘a cast of a thousand dedicated teachers’. She stated, “I feel quite humbled by this award and would like to do anything I can to help my colleagues and to promote lifelong learning for all. I enjoy collaborating with other teachers. I think the Gloucester County Academy, sponsored by the Geraldine Dodge Foundation, will benefit us all.” |
